The 3-year PhD project will be aimed at mechanistically validating the genes and pathways identified by the RNA-Seq approach, developing related treatments and evaluating their therapeutic potential in cellular and animal models. The experimental plan will include several techniques such as bioinformatics, DNA/RNA/protein extractions, PCRs, qPCRs, western blots, cell culture, animal work, immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry.
The Research Institute (RI) for Primary Care Health Sciences at Keele University are looking to recruit a PhD student. The RI is dedicated to undertake research that will improve the quality of care for people with arthritis, chronic musculoskeletal pain, mental health problems and associated comorbidities.
Funding is available for three years to cover fees for PhD registration (2018/19 home/EU rates: £4,260) and a research studentship stipend of currently £14,777 per annum for 2018/19. Non-EU students would be required to pay the balance (currently approximately £11,240 per annum) of the overseas fees themselves.
